Nottingham Forest have strengthened their midfield by signing Austrian international Xaver Schlager on a free transfer following his departure from RB Leipzig.
The 28-year-old has signed a two-year contract and reunites with head coach Oliver Glasner, who previously worked with him at Wolfsburg. Schlager becomes Glasner’s first signing since taking charge at the City Ground.
Schlager spent four seasons with RB Leipzig, where he built a reputation as a hardworking and technically gifted midfielder. His experience in the Bundesliga and European competitions is expected to add quality and leadership to Forest’s squad.
The Austrian midfielder also featured prominently for his national team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, starting all four matches. He has now earned 55 international caps, highlighting his importance to Austria.
