Spain forward and new Liverpool signing Victor Munoz has suffered an injury setback that is set to keep him out of more of their World Cup campaign.
Liverpool announced the signing of Munoz from Osasuna on Thursday, the Reds having swooped in late to sign the winger after paying his €40million (£34.5m) release clause. Munoz had reportedly agreed to sign for Newcastle United but instead elected to make the move to Anfield.
Munoz missed Spain’s opening game, a 0-0 draw with debutants Cape Verde, due to a muscle injury.
And he appears set to miss more group games, with the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s (RFEF) medical team giving no indication as to a timeline for his return.
A statement from the medical team said of Munoz: “During the planned and individualised recovery process, an additional muscle injury has occurred that will delay his return to competition.
“His availability for the upcoming matches will depend on the evolution of his symptoms.”
Spain face Saudi Arabia in their second Group H game on Sunday.
