Richard Verschoor will replace Dennis Hauger at MP Motorsport for the final two rounds of the F2 season.
The Dutchman will remain with the team in the championship next year as well, despite having several options outside the category, including in IndyCar and Japanese Super Formula.
Verschoor has endured a difficult season devoid of luck with Trident, being disqualified twice this season due to technical infringements as well as encountering technical problems in Monaco, where he took pole-position and seemed on his way to victory.
“MP Motorsport actually gave me a first chance after my years in karting,” Verschoor told Motorsport.
“In total, I drove six or seven years for this team. During our first F2 season together, a sponsor dropped out and I couldn’t finish the whole year. As a result, that F2 season was quite stressful and it feels like unfinished business to me.”
“At a certain point, several top teams in Formula 2 came to me asking what I would do next year. Of course, they know that I have been around in Formula 2 for multiple years now, but maybe that experience can help and be a positive thing as well.
“I would like to fight for the championship one more time with this professional team. This year’s performance in itself has not been so bad, although I have been very unlucky.”

Verschoor moves to MP Motorsport with immediate effect in place of Hauger, who will compete in Indy NXT next season.
The move means he will race in Qatar and Abu Dhabi for the Dutch team.
“I will drive for MP in the last races of the year in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. That is a very nice opportunity towards next year, mainly to get used to each other and to see what I might need to change in terms of driving style,” he added.
“I will also help to try and keep Prema behind in the team championship.”
On his ambitions elsewhere, Verschoor explained: “I did talk to some teams for 2025 already and thought about doing an IndyCar test, but then this opportunity came along.
“IndyCar is definitely something I would like for the long-term future, although maybe it came a little bit too early now.
“Formula 2 is very attractive to all my sponsors as well, also because they can come along to the races and experience a Formula 1 weekend at the same time. And personally, I would love to try and fight for the title one more season.”
