Bermudian boxer Saundre “Dash” Simmons believes his stoppage victory over Nosa Divine Nehikhare represents a significant step forward in his burgeoning professional career.
Simmons showcased his rising talent by defeating the Nigerian southpaw with a fourth-round stoppage in Houston, Texas, on Friday, [November 1].
He remains undefeated after five professional bouts.
Simmons floored Nehikhare [5-3-0] with a devastating body shot late in the third round, setting up the eventual knockout in the fourth with a right uppercut.
It was the first time Simmons had fought past the opening round.
“I was blessed with the opportunity and took care of it,” Simmons told Bernews.
“Although I finished the fight in the fourth round, I believe the damage was done in the third round with a body shot.
“I put him down with a right uppercut, but I think it was a case of the body shot catching up with him.
“He was a strong fighter, physically imposing, and came to fight.”
The 27-year-old’s light heavyweight match-up at the Red Owl Boxing Arena featured on the undercard of a show airing live on the sports streaming platform DAZN, with Simmons admitting it was imperative he impressed on the bigger stage.
“Although he was the type of guy I get rounds off every day in sparring, the environment was a bit different and I think I adjusted pretty well,” Simmons added.
“It’s been a very active year, and I’ll talk to my manager and see what’s next. I’d return in the ring next week if it was up to me!
“Hopefully, early next year I can start looking at some title shots. I don’t want to go backwards.”
Born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, Simmons grew up in Somerset, Bermuda, with his Bermudian parents before moving to Asheville, North Carolina, with his mother at age 12.
His amateur boxing career was marked by notable achievements, including runner-up finishes at the USA National Boxing Championships in Louisiana and the Golden Gloves of America in Oklahoma in 2021.
