The CoronaVirus devastated sport around the world in 2020. Things are looking better for 2024 but there could still be some disruptions. Numerous golf events are held throughout the year around the world so there’s always something to watch. Several golf organizations have their system of tours. At the top is the PGA Tour which holds events in the USA. Second is the European Tour, followed by the LPGA Tour and the PGA Tour of Champions, formerly known as the Senior PGA Tour. The sport is also popular in other parts of the world featuring the Asian Tour, Japan Golf Tour and LPGA of Japan Tour as well as China, Australasia, and Korea.
Perhaps the biggest events in golf are the four Majors. Starting in April the Masters is the top tournament held at Augusta National Golf Club. The PGA Championship is scheduled to be held at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, South Carolina in 2021 followed by the US Open Championship from June 17 at Torrey Pines, San Diego. The Open Championship was canceled due to the pandemic in 2020 but is scheduled to take place at Royal St George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, UK 15-18 July 2021.
Another casualty of Covid-19 in 2020 was the Ryder Cup. The biennial competition between Europe and The US will now take place in September 2021 with the US looking to avenge their 2018 loss.
